Tips for purchasing an exercise bike

An exercise bike is a stationary cycle on which you can sit and peddle without it actually moving from its set position.  You could exercise your leg, calf, hamstring and lower back muscles.  Individuals doing training on an exercise bike can be assured of flexing these muscles. Exercise bikes are also known to provide a great cardiovascular workout.

If you are tired going to your gymnasium and want to have an exercise bike at your home, you can purchase one for yourself.  Just adhere to some tips before you buy an exercise bike.

The tips are slightly different for the kind of the bike you wish to purchase.  Bikes are of two types – Recumbent Bikes (Body is placed in a reclining position) and Upright Bikes (Body is placed in an upright posture).

What are the tips for purchasing an exercise bike?

• What is your budget for your exercise bike? – This generally determines the quality of exercise bike that you would be purchasing.  Also note that higher the cost, higher would be the sophistication on the exercise bike.  The price range for exercise bikes is $500 - $1000.  Beginners are advised to buy a simple bike without any magnetic resistance and too many controls.

• What type of resistance do you want for your bike? – There are three types of resistance for bikes.  Direct tension is a type of resistance that offers you to manually adjust the resistance of the bike.  Air resistance is the automatic resistance to the fan blade due to airflow opposing the motion of the fan blade.  Magnetic resistance is the most sophisticated of them all and allows the workout to be strategic and be of in-depth variety.

• What are your options of workouts? – This more or less will determine what kind of an exercise bike you would require.  If you wish to do a heavy duty workout session where you would be on the bike for close to 3 hours, you are advised to take a bike that does not have too many controls.  If you intend on spending quality time on your bike and not worrying too much about manual adjustment, you should be buying a bike with some sophistication and controls in them.

• Check the warranty of your bike – Please note you would be paying quite a bit for your bikes.  You would want to have the surety that the bike would not break down after a couple of weeks of cycling.  Always ensure you know the warranty on the bike, just in case it needs to be replaced.

Exercise bikes are not as bulky as treadmills.  You could hence afford to buy one for almost any space that you have. Just pay attention to these tips and you should get a very good exercise bike.  Much like treadmills, exercise bikes are delicate equipments.  You would need to take enough care to transport it to their appropriate destination as applicable.
